Portland Entertainment

Portland, Oregon has a great variety of entertainment choices. Many revolve around outdoor activities including summer sports like hiking, camping, bicycling, and windsurfing. Winter sports may include skiing, and snowboarding at the nearby ski resorts. Spectator sports include golf, soccer, and of course, Portland’s own Trailblazers basketball team.

The beautiful countryside of the Willamette Valley surrounding Portland has received international attention for producing premier Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, and many other varieties of wine. Bed-and-Breakfast inns are popping up all over the wine country as well as wine-tasting rooms.

Portland is also a relatively “young” city, with the median age at only 35. And, for every 100 females, there are 97.8 males, making for a near-perfect “dating scene.” While recent trends, such as the city’s largest industries, have brought more younger people moving to the downtown area, older, more established families with children are happily opting for the suburbs.

From the hottest nightclub to a down-home neighborhood pub or family-style restaurant, you certainly won’t have to look far to find your favorites. Portland is known for its hip dance spots and an excellent array of cocktails and elegant but trendy dining spots. You’ll never run out of things to do in this city, which offers attractions aplenty that run the gamut – from the Oregon Jewish Museum to The Memorial Coliseum, home to Portland’s hockey team, the Winterhawks, among many other events in the off-season.

For music lovers, The Oregon Symphony, the Portland Youth Philharmonic, and the veritable buffet of live music, from piano jazz to “indie” clubs catering to the younger set, this city offers a variety of its very best.

What was once known as “Stumptown” back in the Oregon Wagon Trail days, today’s Portland has risen head and shoulders above most American cities, consistently ranking in the annual Top 20 “Best Cities in America” lists.
